Playhouse: The Couch (ITV 1974, Francesca Annis, Gary Bond)

In The Couch Elaine and Max are embroiled in a relationship. Max is keen to marry but Elaine’s psychiatrist thinks she shouldn’t. Max is convinced that the psychiatrist is out to spoil the relationship.

This was something of a fresh start for Anna Palk who had been starring in The Main Chance for several years whilst Gary Bond would go on to be a semi-regular in the fourth and final season of that series the following year. Another Main Chance regular was director John Frankau, so much so that he was the godfather of Anna Palk’s son Jonathan and cast them both in his 1976 play Now Is Too Late.
