Within These Walls: The Truth Game (ITV 14 Feb 1975, with Ann Mitchell)
In The Truth Game two new officers have very different ideas about things should work at Stone Park. Jean Truebridge looks on her new position as a job and nothing more but Anne Crashaw thinks she can make a real change. Anne decides to get involved with Kathleen Marsh, a recidivist and stealer. Kathleen has made a long term habit of getting jobs in homes for the elderly and then stealing from the old people in her care. Kathleen is convinced the whole world is against her but Anne thinks she can get through to her and make a change.
Anne makes a grave error of judgement and brings Kathleen in a packet of the French cigarettes that she likes. This is a sackable offence and Kathleen knows it. She is soon blackmailing Anne into bringing in more contraband. Luckily for Anne she decides to go to the governor before being found out, after a meeting with the assistant governors (in which Martha Parrish reveals that she was caught out in a very similar situation at the beginnings of her career) Faye recommends to the Home Office that Anne be allowed to keep her job. Surprisingly Anne decides to resign anyway.
Meanwhile Charles and Beth Radley have had a baby son and Charles is very apprehensive about the new arrival but extremely happy. The baby also seems to have revitalised the dynamic between Charles and his wife. However a crying baby and lack of sleep is soon creating problems for Charles at work.
