Turn Out The Lights (ITV 1967, Arthur Lowe, Robert Dorning)

Turn Out The Lights (ITV 1967, Arthur Lowe, Robert Dorning)

Turn Out The Lights was a sequel to Pardon the Expression, featuring the characters ‘Leonard Swindley’ and ‘Wally Hunt’, which in turn was a spin-off from Coronation Street, with Arthur Lowe reprising the role of Swindley which he played in both series.

Following their dismissal from Dobson and Hawks, Swindley and Hunt become amateur sleuths in this light-hearted comedy-drama series.

As in Pardon the Expression, Swindley was the more dominant character, with his misguided sense of self-confidence landing him in more trouble than he bargained for.

Like its predecessor, Turn out the Lights was screened after the Soap Opera “Coronation Street”, the programme that launched the character of Swindley, and reminding viewers of his roots.

Broadcast 6 January – 10 February 1967
