48 Hours: Missing Marsha (CBS, Saturday, August 24, 2024)

48 Hours Crime Time Double Feature

An encore presentation of “Missing Marsha,” airing Saturday, August 24, on CBS, and streaming on Paramount+, delves into the disappearance of Marsha Brantley from Cleveland, Tennessee, and the subsequent murder case against her husband, Donnie Brantley.

What began as a missing person’s case in 2009 took a mysterious turn when it was revealed that nobody had reported Marsha missing for months after she vanished. It was only when her hairdresser, Kelly DeLude, noticed her absence and inquired that the authorities became involved.

DeLude’s concerns led to a full-fledged investigation, during which police say Donnie Brantley lied about the circumstances of Marsha’s disappearance and her whereabouts. The case presented a unique challenge as there was no body, and thus, no concrete evidence of a murder.

Donnie Brantley was arrested in 2013, but the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence. However, in 2014, District Attorney General Stephen Crump brought charges against Brantley once more. In a surprising turn of events, just before the trial in February 2018, Crump dismissed the charges, leaving everyone shocked.
