T.K. Strand’s 30th birthday bash in the latest 9-1-1: Lone Star isn’t all cake and confetti. “Kiddos” is expected to deliver a potent cocktail of family drama and high-stakes rescues, a blend the show frequently, and sometimes effectively, aims for.
The arrival of T.K.’s stepfather, Enzo (Henry Ian Cusick), and half-brother, Jonah, throws a wrench into the festivities. This family reunion ignites old tensions between Owen and Enzo, escalating to a full-blown brawl. Because, let’s be honest, is it even a family gathering in television land without someone throwing a punch?
While the Strand family implodes, the 126 has its hands full, as usual. A man impaled by a tree requires some on-the-spot, and probably gruesome, field surgery. Meanwhile, Wyatt Harris (Jackson Pace) finds himself in the stressful position of talking down a suicidal caller. It’s all in a day’s work for these first responders though.
Elsewhere, Tommy Vega continues to face a personal crisis, exhibiting her resilience. The subplot offers a respite from the histrionics of the Strand family reunion.
Subtlety isn’t 9-1-1: Lone Star’s strong suit, and this episode looks to be no exception. But amidst the anticipated melodrama, the episode might offer a few moments of genuine connection.
9-1-1: Lone Star: Kiddos airs Monday, November 11, 2024, at 8/7c on FOX.
