TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé franchise has always thrived on relationship dysfunction, but with 90 Day: The Last Resort, it seems they’re taking a slightly different tack.
Six couples – Ari & Bini, Brandon & Julia, Gino & Jasmine, Rob & Sophie, Josh & Natalie, and Stacey & Florian – all familiar faces from the 90 Day universe, are heading to a relationship boot camp in the Arizona desert. Because when you think “fixing a crumbling relationship,” you think “scorching heat and forced intimacy exercises,” right?
The premise is simple enough: three weeks of intense therapy, including the usual group sessions plus some more, shall we say, unconventional approaches. Hypnotherapy, pleasure mapping, and sand tray therapy are all on the menu, apparently.
One can only imagine the dramatic potential of Gino getting hypnotized or Stacey interpreting Florian’s sandcastle as a symbol of his emotional unavailability. And yes, there will be “off-grid excursions into the desert,” which sounds less like therapy and more like a recipe for a heatstroke-induced meltdown.
The big question, of course, is whether any of this will actually work. These couples have a long history of dramatic blowups, questionable choices, and fundamental incompatibilities. Can a few weeks in the desert really undo years of baggage? I’m skeptical, but hey, stranger things have happened. And even if the relationships don’t survive, the resulting trainwreck television will almost certainly be worth watching.
There is also a new companion show, Last Resort: Between the Sheets. This after-show promises “unfiltered” commentary from the cast, behind-the-scenes footage, and therapist interviews. Because if there’s one thing 90 Day fans crave, it’s more talking heads dissecting every awkward moment and rehashing every argument.
90 Day: The Last Resort and Last Resort: Between the Sheets premiere Monday, December 2nd at 8 PM ET/PT on TLC. Both shows are produced by Sharp Entertainment, a part of Sony Pictures Television – Nonfiction, for TLC.
