ABC Primetime Special ‘Latinos in Hollywood: Owning Our Destiny’ Celebrates Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month

ABC News has revealed plans for a comprehensive month-long celebration of Hispanic and Latin American (HLA) Heritage Month, with extensive coverage across its programming and platforms throughout September and October. The centerpiece of this celebration is a new, one-hour primetime special titled “Latinos in Hollywood: Owning Our Destiny,” scheduled to air on Friday, Oct. 11, at 8:00 p.m. EDT on ABC, and available for streaming the next day on Hulu.

The special, hosted by acclaimed ABC News correspondent John Quiñones, will honor the determination, creativity, and influence of Hollywood’s Latino community. It will feature interviews with prominent figures such as Ramón Rodríguez, Eva Longoria, Gina Torres, Eugenio Derbez, John Leguizamo, Rita Moreno, Edward James Olmos, and rising star Xochitl Gomez. The program will explore the career journeys of these stars, discussing representation, visibility, and creative opportunities both on and off the screen.

In addition to the primetime special, ABC News’ coverage will extend across various programs and platforms. “Good Morning America” will honor Hispanic and Latin American musicians, authors, and artists, with performances from Gaby Moreno, Pepe Aguilar, and Carin León, and interviews with Eva Mendes and Josh Andrés Rivera. The show will also focus on health and community connection, featuring Dr. Edith Brancho-Sanchez and the social club “City Señoras.”

“GMA3: What You Need to Know” will offer a variety of engaging segments, including an exclusive look at the launch of “¡VIVA! BROADWAY” by The Broadway League and the Museum of Broadway, with insights from Luis Miranda. The show will also present beauty pioneer Nadine Ramos, highlight innovative products created by Hispanic entrepreneurs, and feature discussions with Diego Luna and Eiza González about their new series “La Máquina,” now streaming on Hulu.

ABC News Live will report on Latino voter outreach, multi-status families, the Pachucos movement, and the life and legacy of Celia Cruz. The streaming news channel will feature interviews with notable figures such as Natalia Lafourcade, Gustavo Dudamel, Manuel García-Rulfo, John Leguizamo, and others.

“The View” will celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of the American Hispanic and Latino communities, with guests including Wilmer Valderrama, Gael García Bernal, and Diego Luna. “Nightline” will air segments on Latino voter issues and diverse musical artists, while “This Week” will explore the impact of the Latino vote in the election cycle.

ABC News Digital and “Good Morning America” Digital will spotlight key issues within Hispanic and Latin American communities, including efforts to reunite Chilean children adopted in the U.S. with their families, the impact of HIV/AIDS, infrastructure challenges in Puerto Rico, and conservation efforts in Venezuela and Brazil.

ABC News Audio will release the audio special “Latinos in Hollywood: Owning Our Destiny” and feature regular segments in “Perspective,” as well as highlights of reporting from other platforms in hourly newscasts. “World News Tonight with David Muir” will celebrate Hispanic and Latin American heritage in its “America Strong” segments throughout the month.
