Streaming platforms AMC+ and Sundance Now have confirmed a second season of the popular supernatural drama series Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale, adapted from the novel by V.V. James. The six-episode season will begin filming in Ireland this month and is scheduled to debut in 2025.
The first season, which premiered earlier this year exclusively on Sundance Now and AMC+, garnered critical acclaim and was Sundance Now’s biggest series debut to date. The story centres around a witch community in modern-day Britain.
In the second season, set a year after the traumatic events of the first, Sarah Fenn (Elaine Cassidy) and her daughter Harper (Hazel Doupe) are in hiding in Scotland, concealing Harper’s extraordinary powers. With recent anti-witch legislation leading to increased hate crimes, Sarah faces a difficult choice: return to Sanctuary as an informant for the witch ruling body, The Moot, or have her magic bound. Opting to retain her powers and protect her daughter, Sarah finds herself back in Sanctuary just as a mysterious murder occurs, drawing DCI Maggie Knight (Stephanie Levi-John) back into the fold.
Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale season two will debut on AMC+ and Sundance Now in 2025. It is produced by Monumental Television, with executive producers Debra Hayward, Alison Owen, Alison Carpenter, Jill Forbes, and Amira El-Nemr. Susie Conklin serves as lead writer and executive producer, alongside V.V. James, Guymon Cassady, and Debbie Horsfield, who created the series for television.
