Apple TV+ has confirmed the return of its acclaimed spy series Slow Horses for a sixth season, following the release of season four’s finale. Based on Mick Herron’s Joe Country and Slough House novels, the new season brings back Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the gruff and unpredictable head of Slough House, the department where MI5 sends its misfits.
Oldman’s portrayal of Lamb, a washed-up intelligence veteran with a knack for getting results, equal parts brilliant and belligerent, has been central to the series’ appeal. The show thrives on its dry wit and its cast of flawed spies, who stumble their way through missions as much as they succeed.
The upcoming season escalates the tension, with the team finding themselves in deeper trouble as Diana Taverner sets them up for another deadly game. It’s exactly the kind of cynical, unglamorous espionage that has made the show a standout.
With a supporting cast that includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, and Jonathan Pryce, Slow Horses continues to deliver quality performances across the board.
The series is produced by See-Saw Films with executive producers Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Gary Oldman, among others. Season six will be adapted for TV by Gaby Chiappe, with Adam Randall returning as director. All four completed seasons are currently streaming, with season five also in production.
