ABC News Studios and Imagine Documentaries are set to produce a documentary on the life and career of broadcasting icon Barbara Walters, with Hulu set to air the program in 2025.
The film will offer a behind-the-scenes look at Walters’ groundbreaking journey, featuring never-before-seen footage from ABC’s archives and interviews with colleagues and peers who worked alongside her.
“Barbara left her indelible stamp… on the entire news industry,” said David Sloan, senior executive producer at ABC News. The documentary will explore Walters’ impact on broadcast journalism and her role as a trailblazer for women in the field.
With a career spanning decades, Barbara Walters became a household name and conducted interviews with some of the most prominent figures in politics and entertainment. The documentary will delve into the broader themes of sexism and power and the complexities of “having it all.”
The film is directed by Emmy-winning journalist Jackie Jesko and produced by Imagine Documentaries, with executive producers including Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Betsy West. ABC News Studios’ Muriel Pearson and David Sloan serve as executive producers for the studio.
