BBC Release Trailer for New Drama “Men Up”

The trailer for Men Up – a feature-length drama on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, written by Matthew Barry, explores the lives of five Welshmen in a groundbreaking medical trial. Premiering December 29th at 9pm.

Groundbreaking True Story

A new feature-length drama titled “Men Up” will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on December 29th at 9pm. Written by Matthew Barry, Men Up explores the lives of five ordinary Welshmen who take part in a medical trial for a new drug that would later become Viagra. Inspired by a true story, the drama delves into the experiences of the men involved in one of the world’s first medical trials for the drug, held at Swansea’s Morriston Hospital in 1994.

The 90-minute drama features a Welsh cast, including Iwan Rheon and Alexandra Roach, and mixes drama with humor to tell a poignant and beautiful story. The story follows the lives of Meurig, Colin, Tommy, Peetham, and Eddie as they seek to reclaim their intimate connections through the drug trial. However, as the drug offers hope for a return to intimacy, the men realize that their challenges have only just begun.

The series also stars Alex Roach, Mark Lewis Jones, Joanna Page, Alex Riley, Nathan Sussex, Lisa Palfrey, Dyfan Dwyfor, and Katy Wix. It is a fictionalized account of the men’s experiences during the medical trial and the unexpected journey it takes them on.

The writer, Matthew Barry, expressed his excitement for the project, highlighting the extraordinary tale and diverse themes explored in the series adding “Who knew that one of the first Viagra trials in the world took place in 1994…in Swansea!”
