The BBC has announced a new comedy series, ‘Only Child’, which has started filming in Scotland. The show stars Scottish comedy veterans Gregor Fisher and Greg McHugh as a father and son duo, with McHugh’s character, an aspiring actor, returning to his family home to care for his ageing father.
“I am delighted to be working with young McHugh on Only Child for the dear old BBC,” said Fisher, known for his roles in ‘Rab C Nesbitt’ and ‘Love Actually’.
McHugh, who has starred in ‘The A Word’ and ‘Fresh Meat’, expressed his excitement at working alongside one of his heroes, Fisher: “If you’d told my younger self graduating from drama school that one day I’d be shooting a father-son comedy with Gregor Fisher, I wouldn’t have believed you.”
‘Only Child’ is a fictional comedy that explores the relationship between Richard (McHugh) and his father, Ken (Fisher), through the lens of neighbourly disputes and generational differences. Richard, an only child, returns to his family home in Scotland to find that his recently widowed father may need more help than he is willing to admit.
The six-part series, written by Bryce Hart, will be air on BBC One and iPlayer.
‘Only Child’ is directed by Al Campbell and produced by Ursula Haworth, with Neil Webster serving as Executive Producer for Happy Tramp North.
