The BBC has announced the cast for its upcoming comedy-drama series, Video Nasty, which will air in early 2025 on BBC Northern Ireland, BBC Three, and BBC iPlayer in the UK.

Starring in Video Nasty are Justin Daniels Anene (Sanctuary), Cal O’Driscoll (Sanctuary), and Leia Murphy (Fair City). They will be joined by a talented supporting cast, including Valerie O’Connor (Red Rock), Declan Rodgers (Patrick Melrose), Simone Kirby (His Dark Materials), and Emmanuel Ighodaro (Shameless).

Video Nasty is a six-part original comedy-drama series written by Hugh Travers. The show is produced by Deadpan Pictures in association with Boat Rocker and supported by Northern Ireland Screen, Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, and Coimisiún na Meán. Ailish McElmeel serves as the series producer, while Julie Baines takes on the role of producer.

The series follows teen best friends Billy (Daniels Anene) and Con (O’Driscoll) as they navigate their final year of school and embark on one last hurrah before adulthood. However, their plans are complicated by the presence of Con’s older sister, Zoe (Murphy). The seemingly simple friendship dynamic becomes more complex, and family dynamics are tested as the three find themselves caught up in a gruesome murder investigation.

Eddie Doyle, Head of Content Commissioning at BBC Northern Ireland, praised the cast and the series’ blend of “laugh-out-loud comedy” and “compelling horror-themed drama.” Anthony Nilan, Director of Programming at Virgin Media Television, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the talented young cast and the show’s ability to immerse viewers in the world of the 1980s.
