Ben Fogle’s Endurance: Race for the Nile Set for Channel 5

Channel 5

Channel 5 will present Endurance: Race for the Nile, a two-part documentary series, taking audiences on a historic journey to find the source of the Nile River. Following their previous collaboration, Endurance: Race to the Pole, explorers Ben Fogle and Dwayne Fields will embark on another adventure, retracing the steps of Victorian-era explorers in their quest for the Nile’s source.

The Nile, a river of mystery, intrigued 19th-century explorers, who sought to uncover its origins in Africa. The series examines the stories of notable figures like Dr. David Livingstone, Richard Burton, John Speke, and Henry Morton Stanley, who faced challenging terrain and difficulties in their pursuit of glory and scientific discovery.

Fogle and Fields will undertake a challenging journey, wearing period clothing and using the same equipment as their Victorian predecessors. As they journey through the African landscape, they will encounter the dark heart of Britain’s colonial history and the ethical considerations faced by these early explorers.

Endurance: Race for the Nile is commissioned by Denise Seneviratne, Channel 5’s Factual Commissioning Editor, and co-produced by October Films and Krempelwood. Alexis Girardet is the series producer and director, with Adam Bullmore and Mike Warner as executive producers for October Films, and Blair Krempel and Mark Wood for Krempelwood.
