Bill Burr and Charli XCX Set for November SNL Hosting Gigs

Saturday Night Live Generic

Saturday Night Live” has announced its next two November hosts, and well, it’s a mixed bag. Bill Burr, the perpetually grumpy but undeniably funny comedian, returns for his second hosting stint on November 9th. Accompanying him is musical guest Mk.gee, making his SNL debut.

Then, on November 16th, pop provocateur Charli XCX pulls double duty, hosting and performing as musical guest. This marks her third time gracing the SNL stage, but her first in the driver’s seat.

Burr’s return is welcome, if predictable. He’s a reliable source of curmudgeonly humor, and his last appearance in 2020, right before the election, provided some much-needed comedic relief in a tense time. One can only hope he’ll bring his signature brand of cynicism to the current political landscape. Mk.gee, though less familiar to mainstream audiences, could be an interesting wildcard. His critically acclaimed debut album suggests some musical chops, and who doesn’t love discovering a new artist on SNL?

Charli XCX’s double duty gig is more puzzling. While she’s a talented musician, her foray into hosting could be a train wreck or a triumph – honestly, it’s hard to tell. Perhaps Lorne Michaels is hoping for some of that Harry Styles magic.

All this raises a bigger question: with the 50th anniversary special looming in February, shouldn’t SNL be pulling out all the stops? These November bookings feel like filler, a way to kill time until the big event.

Where are the A-list hosts? The legendary musical acts? The sense of occasion? I’m all for giving newer talent a chance, but this feels like a missed opportunity to build some real excitement for the golden anniversary. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Lorne has some surprises up his sleeve.

“Saturday Night Live” is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.
