The Barnsley Casualty department faces a challenging shift as Sister Vicky arrives for her morning shift to find an influx of patients, creating a backlog. The episode, airing on Channel 5 on Wednesday 26 June, depicts the team’s efforts to manage the sudden surge in patients and their dedication to providing timely care.

The episode opens with the news of an emergency as a lorry tips over in a country lane, and the driver, Karl, is rushed to the hospital. Doctor Rebekah Grassby immediately assesses the 57-year-old, tending to any injuries he may have sustained. Meanwhile, the team receives another call, this time concerning 82-year-old Ron, who was found collapsed at home. Paramedics express concern over Ron’s confusion, and Doctor Jake Mullen is called to determine the cause of his fall.

In the paediatric emergency department, Nurse Greg reassures worried mum Chelsea that her nearly two-year-old daughter, Esmae, who bumped her head during a fall, does not have a concussion. However, the sizeable lump on Esmae’s head warrants further assessment by a doctor. Over in minors, Emergency Nurse Practitioner Becky tends to 28-year-old Kial, who sliced his fingertips while preparing lunch. Becky quickly assesses Kial’s wounds and provides the necessary treatment.

Doctor Kelly Chapple, also on duty, encounters 84-year-old Graham, who presents with stroke-like symptoms he experienced a few days prior. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Doctor Chapple initiates urgent tests and arranges for a CT scan to be conducted immediately.
