The Barnsley Casualty department faces another hectic Manic Monday, with Sister Jo and her team bracing themselves for a surge of patients. The episode, airing on Channel 5 on Monday 1 July, depicts the hectic reality of the medical staff as they tackle various emergencies.

The episode begins with the blue-light paramedics rushing a 66-year-old patient, Howerd, to the hospital, his heart racing at a dangerously high rate. Doctor Jake Mullen springs into action, heading to resus to prepare for Howerd’s arrival and assess the concerning charts from the paramedics.

Meanwhile, another critical patient, 74-year-old Elvin, is on his way to resus, presenting the opposite yet equally dangerous condition: an alarmingly slow heart rate. Elvin’s daughter, Jade, is worried as he has been ignoring his symptoms all weekend.

In Minors, a 35-year-old roofer named Dale suffers a painful injury after falling at work, injuring his wrist. Emergency Nurse Practitioner Jo administers pain relief and arranges an urgent x-ray. Dale’s injury could mean weeks or even months off work, a worrying prospect for the father of four.

Another Monday morning crisis unfolds as a patient with a history of abdominal pain, Catherine, relapses, accompanied by her husband, Kevin. Consultant Doctor Laura Buxton is on duty, ready to lend her expertise.

Volunteer Jane clocks in, offering a helping hand to the busy team. The pediatric department also sees action as eight-year-old Elizabeth is rushed in by her mother, Holly, after a rushed Monday morning routine.
