CBS has ordered a full season of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, the Young Sheldon spinoff following the, shall we say, unconventional beginnings of Georgie and Mandy’s family life. The comedy, starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, has resonated with audiences, prompting the network to double down on the further adventures of the Cooper clan.
CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach cited the “enormous appeal” of the characters and the show’s early success as justification for the full season pickup. According to the network, the premiere episode garnered 10.6 million multiplatform viewers in its first week, outperforming even the final season premiere of Young Sheldon. Streaming numbers on Paramount+ and CBS TVE also saw a significant boost compared to Young Sheldon’s last season debut.
TThe series follows the young couple as they grapple with parenthood, marriage, and general adulthood in Texas. One can only imagine the comedic potential (and potential for disaster) inherent in this setup.
While expanding a beloved sitcom universe can be a risky proposition, CBS seems confident that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will continue to deliver “hilarious fun.” With Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland at the helm, the show certainly has the pedigree to succeed.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage airs Thursdays on CBS and streams on Paramount+. The series also stars Rachel Bay Jones, Will Sasso, Dougie Baldwin, and Jesse Prez. It is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc., in association with Warner Bros. Television.
