Filming is now underway for Code of Silence, a six-part crime drama from ITV, Mammoth Screen, and BritBox. The series is written by Catherine Moulton, drawing from her own experiences with lip-reading and hearing loss. Featuring Rose Ayling-Ellis in the lead role, the series will be a unique perspective on crime, communication, and representation, supported by a cast from deaf, disabled, and neurodiverse communities.
Ayling-Ellis plays Alison Brooks, a Deaf canteen worker who becomes central to a high-stakes police investigation. Using her lip-reading skills, Alison helps police track a dangerous gang, but her role becomes complicated when she develops feelings for suspect Liam Bayne, portrayed by Kieron Moore. The series also stars Charlotte Ritchie as DS Ashleigh Francis and Andrew Buchan as DI James Marsh.
The cast includes Nathan Armarkwei Laryea, Joe Absolom, Beth Goddard, and Andrew Scarborough. Rolf Choutan makes his acting debut, while Fifi Garfield plays Alison’s Deaf mother. Diarmuid Goggins directs the series, with Chanya Button directing later episodes. Code of Silence will air on ITV1 and stream on ITVX, with international distribution by ITV Studios.
Executive producers include Bryony Arnold and Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen, Robert Schildhouse and Stephen Nye for BritBox, as well as Rose Ayling-Ellis and Catherine Moulton.
The series will premiere in the US and Canada on BritBox in 2025. Mammoth Screen is part of ITV Studios.
