Let’s be honest, the allure of Crime Scene Kitchen has always been less about the “crime scene” and more about watching talented bakers attempt to recreate elaborate desserts from scant clues. This week, however, the FOX competition series might have finally found a dessert worthy of its convoluted premise.
With the quarterfinals looming, the five remaining teams are facing what’s being touted as the most challenging mystery dessert of the season. Adding to the pressure – and hopefully, the quality of the resulting pastries – is guest judge Dominique Ansel, the culinary mind behind the legendary Cronut™.
Ansel, a James Beard Award winner, joins resident judges Curtis Stone and Yolanda Gampp to evaluate the bakers’ efforts. One can only hope he’s prepared for the inevitable Cronut™-inspired guesses, regardless of the actual dessert presented. Will the contestants crack under the pressure of impressing such a renowned pastry chef? Or will they rise to the occasion, proving they have the skills and ingenuity to move on to the semifinals?
Of course, host Joel McHale will be on hand to provide his usual brand of wry commentary. While McHale’s culinary expertise might be questionable, his ability to inject levity into the high-stakes baking competition is undeniable. As the remaining teams tackle the tricky terrain of culinary guesswork and high-pressure baking, McHale’s presence provides a welcome dose of comedic relief. This week’s Crime Scene Kitchen is expected to bring a formidable challenge, a celebrity guest judge, and, with any luck, some genuinely impressive desserts.
Crime Scene Kitchen airs Thursday, November 14th at 9:00 PM ET/PT on FOX.
