The BBC has released first-look images for Dead and Buried, an upcoming psychological drama series. The show is a joint commission by BBC Northern Ireland and Virgin Media Television in association with All3Media International.
Starring Annabel Scholey and Colin Morgan, the four-part thriller explores the complex dynamics between Cathy (Scholey), a woman reeling from a traumatic past, and Michael (Morgan), the man convicted of her brother’s murder.
The story unfolds when Cathy encounters Michael outside a supermarket. Despite her young son and best friend’s presence, the meeting re-traumatizes Cathy, triggering an unhealthy obsession. She delves into Michael’s life, discovering his successful career and happy family, a stark contrast to her own life. Consumed by revenge, she embarks on a clandestine relationship with Michael, blurring the lines between fantasy and reality.
The series is written by acclaimed writer Colin Bateman and produced by Three River Fiction and Vico Films. It is directed by Laura Way and jointly commissioned by Eddie Doyle of BBC Northern Ireland and Sinead Stimpfig of Virgin Media Television.
In addition to Scholey and Morgan, the series cast also includes Kerri Quinn, Waj Ali, Owen Roe, Niamh Walsh, Micheal Hanna, and Joanne Crawford.
Dead and Buried was filmed earlier this year in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and will air this autumn on BBC One Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer.
