U&Dave has announced an exciting new entertainment show, “Silence is Golden”, hosted by Dermot O’Leary. Created by Richard Bacon, the series will be produced by Yes Yes Media for UKTV, adding to their lineup of comedy entertainment shows.

The premise of “Silence is Golden” is simple yet chaotic: at the start of each episode, the studio audience is given £250,000. Their task is to remain silent throughout the show. With every audience member mic’d up, a group of 30 entertainers, led by comedian captains, wage war on the audience’s resolve, trying to make them laugh and reduce the prize money with every sound. It’s a unique format where the entertainers and audience are pitted against each other.

Dermot O’Leary shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m so looking forward to ‘Silence is Golden’. When a show like this falls into your lap, you can’t quite believe your luck. I’m excited to have fun with the audience, our comedians, and assorted cast, all trying to make the audience laugh, gasp, and giggle.”

Mark Iddon, senior commissioning editor for comedy and entertainment, added: “We’re really excited to bring ‘Silence is Golden’ to U&Dave. Dermot is the perfect host to hold this chaotically ambitious show together. Silence is Golden is the only show where staying silent is worth its weight in gold.”

With a mix of comedians and a subversive twist, “Silence is Golden” promises to be a hilarious and unpredictable addition to U&Dave’s lineup, challenging both the entertainers and the audience in a battle of wits and silence.

Silence is Golden will air on U&Dave and stream on U next year, following the launch of U – a new masterbrand that will unite UKTV’s family of free-to-air channels and its free streaming service. Launching in Summer 2024, the move will see current streaming service UKTV Play transition to U, and UKTV’s family of free-to-air channels will become U&Dave, U&DRAMA, U&YESTERDAY and U&W.
