Fresh from the excitement of Saturday’s episode, “The Legend of Ruby Sunday,” where the Doctor and Ruby Sunday encountered the iconic villain Sutekh, played by original actor Gabriel Woolf, the BBC has confirmed a special treat for “Doctor Who” fans. “Tales of the TARDIS: Pyramids of Mars” will air on Thursday, 20 June at 8 pm on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer.
In this brand-new episode, viewers will be introduced to the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) for the first time in “Tales of the TARDIS.” The story pays homage to the classic 1975 four-part serial “Pyramids of Mars,” featuring the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) and Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) battling the formidable Sutekh.
The original serial has been remastered and transformed into a feature-length omnibus episode with updated visual effects. “Tales of the TARDIS: Pyramids of Mars” sees the TARDIS land in 1911, where mummies are on the move and an ancient evil threatens humanity.
As the Doctor and Ruby reflect on their recent adventures aboard the Remembered TARDIS, they prepare for their ultimate challenge in this Saturday’s highly anticipated season finale, “Empire of Death.” The finale will also mark the return of Gabriel Woolf as Sutekh, reprising his iconic role 48 years later.
Phil Collinson, Executive Producer, shared his enthusiasm for revisiting the show’s rich history and the appeal of “Doctor Who” across generations: “It’s so exciting to bring back Tales of the TARDIS again, and to revisit a classic enemy of the Doctor… Gabriel Woolf as Sutekh, returning to terrify a whole new generation of children in a blistering season finale is what makes this show so special.”
