The season finale of Doctor Who, titled “Empire of Death,” airs on BBC One on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The episode is the second part of a two-part story and marks the conclusion of the show’s 14th series.
The finale welcomes back the villain Sutekh, a formidable figure also known as the Destroyer of the Jackal. First introduced in the 1975 Tom Baker story “Pyramids of Mars,” Sutekh makes a grand return in “Empire of Death,” appearing as a giant CG jackal and possessing people.
The episode synopsis teases an epic battle against an all-powerful, immortal enemy: “The Doctor has lost, his ageless enemy reigns supreme, and a shadow is falling over creation. Nothing can stop the devastation… except, perhaps, one woman.”
Showrunner Russell T Davies hinted at surprises and the inclusion of an unannounced “great actor” in an interview: “There’s a few surprises to come. There are a couple of cast members we haven’t announced. There’s one great, great actor who appeared in the very last episode that we haven’t credited anywhere yet… So, there are a few surprises on the way.”
Empire of Death promises a thrilling conclusion to the 14th series, with the Doctor facing off against an ancient and powerful foe. Will the Doctor be able to save the day, or will the shadow of destruction consume everything in its path?
Doctor Who: Empire of Death airs at 6:40 pm on BBC One on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The episode will also be available earlier in the day on BBC iPlayer and Disney+ in the US.
