Nearly two decades after her departure, Tracy-Ann Oberman is set to reprise her role as the infamous Chrissie Watts on BBC’s EastEnders. The character, who was last seen in December 2005, will make a brief return to our screens this autumn.

For those who need a reminder, Chrissie Watts’ original stint on Albert Square was eventful, to say the least. She entered the fray in April 2004, searching for her husband, Den Watts (Lesley Grantham), unaware that he had another family. What followed was a tangled web of deceit, affairs, and ultimately, murder.

Chrissie, along with accomplices Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) and Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan), found herself at the center of a sensational storyline when they conspired to kill Den Watts and bury him under the floor of The Vic barrel store. The truth eventually came to light, and Chrissie was imprisoned for her part in the crime.

During her time on the show, Chrissie also clashed with several other characters, including Kate Mitchell (Jill Halfpenny), whose hair she infamously cut off after discovering Kate’s affair with Den. There was also bad blood between Chrissie and Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace), as Kat blamed Chrissie for involving her daughter Zoe in Den’s murder.

However, her biggest adversary was perhaps Den’s beloved daughter, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean). In a world where Den always put his ‘Princess’ first, Chrissie learned the hard way that she could never compete with his devotion to his family.

Fast-forward to 2024, and the details of Chrissie’s return are being kept under wraps. Why has she reappeared after all these years? Executive Producer, Chris Clenshaw, teases: “I’m keeping tight-lipped on the exact circumstances relating to her return for the time being, but what I can promise is that it’s never quiet when Chrissie Watts is around.”

Tracy-Ann Oberman expressed her excitement about reprising her famous role, stating: “Chrissie Watts was such a great character to play – a victim or a villain. She is a real fan favorite, and I jumped at the chance to come back and see what has happened in the last 19 years.”

With filming already underway, viewers can expect to see the return of Chrissie Watts to Albert Square this autumn. Brace yourselves for what promises to be a dramatic comeback.
