Elsbeth Season 2: Succession, Fantastic Four Stars Join Carrie Preston

Elsbeth Key Art

CBS’s Elsbeth, the quirky legal drama centered on Carrie Preston’s eccentric lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni, is bolstering its ranks for season two with a trio of notable additions. Sullivan Jones (Fantastic Four), Ioan Gruffudd (Harrow), and Alan Ruck (Succession) are set to appear in the second season, which premiered Tuesday, October 17, and airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.

Jones takes on a recurring role as Cameron Clayden, a New York medical examiner whose path is expected to cross with Elsbeth’s in the course of her investigations. Given Elsbeth’s unconventional methods, the interactions between the by-the-book Clayden and the anything-but Tascioni are likely to generate some sparks.

Gruffudd guest stars as Angus, a Scottish artist entangled in a murder mystery. His episode, airing on Valentine’s Day, hints at a potential romantic subplot. Could Elsbeth find herself momentarily distracted from legal puzzles by matters of the heart?

Ruck, in a slightly more complicated casting twist, will portray twin brothers Peter and Bill Henderson. These high-powered hedge fund players add a layer of financial intrigue to the mix, with at least one brother potentially serving as the antagonist of his episode. Given Ruck’s proven ability to portray characters ranging from the affable to the unnervingly intense, it will be interesting to see how he differentiates the twins.

The series follows the titular character, originally introduced on The Good Wife and its spin-off The Good Fight, as she applies her distinctive approach to crime-solving in New York City. The series, while a legal drama, leans into its comedic elements, relying heavily on Preston’s ability to make Elsbeth’s offbeat observations and social awkwardness both amusing and insightful.

Elsbeth airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
