Documentary series Emergency continues its third season with episodes being stripped across Channel 4 this week at 9:00pm, it’s an insightful and emotional look at London’s trauma hospitals and the life-saving work they perform daily.
Jeymi, a 33-year-old mother of three, is rushed to St Mary’s Hospital after a severe car accident, resulting in a serious femur fracture and a broken knee joint. Orthopedic surgeon Rajarshi performs emergency surgery, aiming to get Jeymi back on her feet and to her family. Meanwhile, 15-year-old Louie is recovering at the same hospital following surgery to repair a severed artery in his leg. He recounts the frightening incident at school and expresses his relief, acknowledging that the situation could have been fatal.
Across town, at King’s College Hospital, 54-year-old João is fighting for his leg. He suffered a devastating injury after falling under a bus, and surgeons are working diligently to save his limb. At the Royal London Hospital, 20-year-old motorcyclist Tyler is in a critical condition with multiple injuries, including severe wounds to his right leg, jaw, and arm. The London Air Ambulance team is called to the scene, facing a challenging task to stabilize him.
The episode also follows 38-year-old Lance Corporal Lee, a paratrooper who suffered a life-altering paragliding accident. He undergoes surgery to realign his spine and pelvis. Additionally, 36-year-old Heidi is admitted to St Mary’s after a traumatic dog attack, highlighting the diverse range of emergencies the hospitals handle.
