Euphoria: Time Jump Confirmed for Season 3 as HBO Refutes Cancellation Rumors

Rumors of Euphoria’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. HBO, in a statement to The Independent, has emphatically stated that the Sam Levinson-created teen drama will indeed return for a third season, with production slated to begin in 2025. This puts to rest the recent whispers of cancellation, fueled by the prolonged wait for new episodes.

Season 2 concluded its run in early 2022. The subsequent delay for Season 3 can be attributed to several factors, including the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and the tragic passing of Angus Cloud. In July, reports emerged that filming was targeted to commence in January 2025, with the core cast expected to reprise their roles.

A significant development for the upcoming season is a confirmed time jump. Zendaya, who portrays the central character Rue, a recovering addict, recently touched upon this narrative shift in an interview. She expressed relief at moving beyond the well-trodden ground of high school drama and acknowledged the intrigue of seeing these characters grapple with adulthood, molded by their adolescent experiences. Though details about the overall direction of Season 3 remain limited, Zendaya’s comments suggest a focus on the characters’ evolution and how past actions inform their present lives.

Levinson previously hinted at a “film noir” aesthetic for the new season, indicating that Rue’s journey will involve exploring morality in a corrupt environment. This exploration may provide ample opportunity to examine the complicated realities of adulthood and the difficulties of upholding principles in a world that frequently challenges them.

Euphoria Season 3 is expected in 2025 on HBO.
