Ahead of its premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 11, Hulu has released a teaser trailer for “A Thousand Blows.” This series, set in the dangerous world of illegal boxing in 1880s Victorian London, will be available on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland, Hulu in the U.S., and on Disney+ in select countries in 2025.
Created by Steven Knight, “A Thousand Blows” features Malachi Kirby as Hezekiah Moscow, a Jamaican immigrant who finds himself in the brutal boxing scene of London’s East End. Hezekiah crosses paths with Mary Carr, played by Erin Doherty, the leader of The Forty Elephants, an infamous all-female gang.
Hezekiah’s journey brings him into conflict with Sugar Goodson, played by Stephen Graham, a veteran boxer. Their rivalry extends beyond the ring, affecting the lives of those around them.
The series cast includes, with Francis Lovehall as Alec Munroe, Jason Tobin as Mr Lao, and James Nelson-Joyce as Edward “Treacle” Goodson. The Forty Elephants gang includes Hannah Walters, Darci Shaw, Nadia Albina, Morgan Hilaire, Jemma Carlton, and Caoilfhionn Dunne.
Additional cast members are Susan Lynch, Daniel Mays, Adam Nagaitis, Gary Lewis, Tom Davis, and Robert Glenister.
“A Thousand Blows” is written by Steven Knight, with contributions from Ameir Brown, Insook Chappell, Harlan Davies, and Yasmin Joseph. The series is directed by Tinge Krishnan and Nick Murphy, with executive producers including Stephen Graham, Damian Keogh, Kate Lewis, Tom Miller, and Sam Myer.
