Monday night’s Four Corners on ABC and ABC iview explores the lesser-known consequences of sex work in the Philippines, where contraception is often not used, and abortion is illegal.
The episode, titled “Sex Tourism — My Father’s Secret,” reveals that men from Australia, New Zealand, and other countries are estimated to have fathered tens of thousands of children with sex workers, leaving most of these children unacknowledged and living in poverty.
This episode, airing on Monday, 8 July 2024, at 8:30 pm, features a trailblazing Australian-led project that uses DNA to identify and locate the sex tourists who fathered these children. The goal is to hold these men accountable and demand child support.
In a co-production with the UK’s Clover Films, Four Corners meets the children, their mothers, and the dedicated individuals who track down the missing fathers. The documentary really shows the long-term impact of sex tourism and the responsibilities of these men who have often kept their activities secret.
Four Corners: Sex Tourism — My Father’s Secret airs on ABC Australia at 8:30 pm on Monday, 8 July 2024.
