In the series finale of Gareth Malone’s Easter Passion, the culmination of weeks of hard work by Malone and eight amateur singers results in a stunning performance of Bach’s St John Passion, marking the 300th anniversary of its debut. The performance takes place at Cardiff’s Hoddinott Hall with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the BBC Singers providing accompaniment. Impressively, the concert also features three renowned soloists: tenor Nicholas Mulroy, soprano Julia Doyle, and baritone Roderick Williams, who sang at the King’s coronation.
The amateur singers, handpicked by Malone, have rehearsed tirelessly for this moment under his expert guidance. Now, they’re prepared to showcase their passion and talent alongside the professionals. The St John Passion, a monumental work of art, provides an emotional and powerful musical experience for the performers and audience alike.
