Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee, a fast-paced new comedy series, premieres on ABC on Wednesday, 14 August at 8.30 pm, with all episodes available to stream on ABC iview. The series features host Guy Montgomery and his loyal assistant, Aaron Chen, as they challenge four famous Australian faces each week to a series of spelling tests.
Based on the successful New Zealand format and the sold-out Melbourne International Comedy Festival show, each episode sees Montgomery and Chen present five wildly inventive spelling challenges designed to bewilder and entertain. The first episode welcomes comedians Urzila Carlson, Nazeem Hussain, Danielle Walker, and Tom Gleeson as they tackle a spelling challenge related to Australian currency.
Throughout the series, a top lineup of stars will step up to the podium, including Tony Armstrong, Wil Anderson, Geraldine Hickey, Luke McGregor, Peter Helliar, Tim Minchin, Steph Tisdell, Demi Lardner, Rhys Nicholson, Concetta Caristo, Zoe Coombs Marr, and more.
Each episode will culminate in a fast-and-furious final spelling round, where the winner will receive the ultimate prize of defending their crown in the next episode. However, the loser will endure the embarrassment of sitting in the dunce’s corner, wearing the infamous dunce’s hat.
