Retta, the star of HGTV’s “Ugliest House in America,” is embarking on a new series, “Scariest House in America,” premiering on Friday, October 4, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. In this series, Retta will explore nine eerie and terrifying houses across the Midwest, Northeast, and South.
The show will feature a variety of spooky properties, including a former jail inhabited by bats, a suspected mobster hideout, and a dilapidated home with an enigmatic past. Retta, known for her comedic charm, will provide candid and humorous assessments of each home’s scary appearance, functionality, and overall fright factor.
After visiting these haunted houses, HGTV will name one as the “Scariest House in America,” awarding the homeowners a $150,000 renovation by popular network designer Alison Victoria.
Retta shared her thoughts on this new project: “I was cool with the summer road trip and ugly in paradise, but, for a gal that is spooked by every creak, critter and errant hair that brushes my shoulder, this wasn’t it. Glad I got through it, but I won’t lie and say I ‘enjoyed’ it.”
“Scariest House in America” and “Ugliest House in America” are produced by Big Fish Entertainment for HGTV.
