Let’s be honest, the appeal of Homestead Rescue isn’t exactly rocket science. We watch to see Marty Raney wield a chainsaw, Misty Raney build something improbable out of reclaimed wood, and Matt Raney wrestle livestock (or maybe just a stubborn root). This week, the formula heads to Maine, where – shocker – things are wet.
In “Maine Bog Blues,” the Raneys encounter a homestead sinking faster than a politician’s approval rating. The Maine wilderness, never known for its tropical breezes, throws a boggy one-two punch at the featured family, who seem to be losing their battle against the damp. Their unfinished cabin is, well, unfinished, and their animals are less “free-range” and more “swamp-bound.” It’s a familiar predicament for the Raneys and, frankly, for any show about off-grid living.
The Raneys, ever the can-do clan, are expected to bring their trademark mix of frontier ingenuity and heavy machinery to the table (or, rather, the bog). Expect raised animal pens, drainage solutions that probably involve some serious ditch-digging, and maybe even a few poignant words about the importance of perseverance.
Hey, it wouldn’t be Homestead Rescue without a little homespun wisdom alongside the home-building. Will the Maine homesteaders finally find dry land? Will Matt Raney catch a giant bullfrog?
