Expecting reality TV villains to be funny is like expecting a shark to do stand-up. Yet, that’s the premise of this week’s “House of Villains,” and it looks to be a recipe for disaster — or at least some wonderfully awkward television. The Redemption Challenge returns, forcing our cast of miscreants to attempt humor. Some, I suspect, will be about as successful as a screen door on a submarine.
The ongoing feud between Victoria and, well, pretty much everyone, continues to simmer. Honestly, Victoria seems to view conflict the way a hummingbird views nectar. I’m fascinated to see just how far she’ll push things this time.
Elsewhere, Teresa, who has so far played the game with the subtlety of a foghorn, is apparently making a big decision. Will she flip an alliance? Will she finally realize she’s the villain of her own story? I wouldn’t bet on it, but one can always dream.
But the real kicker comes at the elimination ceremony. A twist — because what would a reality show be without a twist? — results in a double banishment. Two villains are going home, leaving the rest of the house in what I can only assume will be a state of manufactured shock. Frankly, after a season of backstabbing and betrayals, any remaining “surprise” feels a bit performative. Still, I’ll be tuning in, if only for the potential train wreck. It’s reality TV, after all — where schadenfreude is the main course.
“House of Villains” airs Thursday, November 21st at 10:00 PM on E!.
