Canadian broadcaster Citytv has confirmed that the police procedural drama “Hudson & Rex” will be back for a seventh season, continuing the crime-solving adventures of Detective Charlie Hudson and his four-legged partner, Rex.
The series, a Canadian adaptation of the Austrian-Italian drama “Kommissar Rex” and its German counterpart, first premiered on March 25, 2019, on Citytv, with filming taking place in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. It centers on the unique partnership between Detective Hudson (John Reardon), who prefers the company of dogs over chatty colleagues, and Rex, a former K-9 German Shepherd with exceptional skills.
Together, they tackle a range of criminal cases, including kidnappings, art heists, and homicides, with Rex’s acute senses and Hudson’s investigative prowess forming an unbreakable team. The show also features a supporting cast of specialists: Mayko Nguyen as Forensics Chief Sarah Truong, Kevin Hanchard as Superintendent Joseph “Joe” Donovan, and Justin Kelly as IT Specialist Jesse Mills.
“Hudson & Rex” has proven to be a ratings success for Citytv, and has been picked up by international markets, airing in countries such as the UK, France, Germany, and Armenia.
