Jeopardy! Thursday July 18, 2024, Recap, Winner and Final Answer

Jeopardy Ken Jennings

Today’s contestants on Jeopardy! were Meredith Miller, a labor economist from Arlington, Virginia; Micah Rahn-Tiemeyer, a mental health crisis therapist from Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Jay Fisher, a government relations manager from Lisle, Illinois, and a two-day champion with total winnings of $16,199.

The categories in the Jeopardy! round included America on Stamps, That’s “AA”wesome, Geology, An Asian Capital Idea, They Make That, and The Oscar & Razzie Winner. Micah encountered the first Daily Double, worth $600, in the Geology category. With a true Daily Double wager, Micah risked $1,600 but dropped to $0 when he was unable to provide the correct response. The answer was “An attraction at Carlsbad Caverns is one of these long formations known as the Sword of Damocles.” Heading into the first break, Jay had a comfortable lead with $3,200, followed by Micah at $600, and Meredith at -$800.

As the game progressed into Double Jeopardy!, the categories shifted to Some Hats, Some Cattle, Pop Culture Grab Bag, History, World Heritage Sites, In the Bookstore, and Nude, to the Oed. Micah, who had entered this round with a score of $2,400, quickly bounced back from his previous Daily Double miss. He wagered $1,000 on the second Daily Double, worth $800 in the History category, and correctly responded with “What is the Boer War?” This brought his total to $3,800 and put him in the lead. However, his luck took a turn when he encountered the third Daily Double, worth $1,600 in the World Heritage Sites category. Micah wagered $3,400, but his incorrect response dropped his score to $7,200, while Jay maintained a steady $3,400.

Despite Micah’s quick start in Double Jeopardy!, his opponents couldn’t make a strong comeback. This set up an exciting finale, with Micah at $8,000, Jay close behind at $6,600, and Meredith at $6,000.

The Final Jeopardy! category was Show Biz Marriages, and the clue was: “Married since 1977, the year of this band’s 1st album, 2 members referenced another album with their 2023 ‘Remain In Love’ tour.” Only Jay answered correctly with “Who are Talking Heads?” and added $5,401 to his score, bringing his total to $12,001. Micah and Meredith finished with scores of $2,799 and $1,500, respectively.
