On Thursday’s episode of Killers: Caught on Camera, the program examines the Suttles & Josephson murder cases, which involved the deaths of Edna Suttles and Samantha Josephson. The show reveals how crucial surveillance footage played a pivotal role in bringing their killers to justice.
The episode looks into the conviction of Dennis Wade Suttles for the first-degree murder of Edna Suttles. A Knox County jury sentenced Suttles to death, deeming the murder especially cruel and involving torture. Psychiatric evidence presented during the trial indicated that Suttles had a propensity for violence when he felt a loss of control or rejection in heterosexual relationships. The murder was characterized as an impulsive and explosive act, driven by intense emotions.
The program also investigates the tragic case of 21-year-old University of South Carolina student Samantha Josephson. On March 29, 2019, Josephson accidentally entered a car she believed to be her Uber ride. The driver, Nathaniel Rowland, used childproof locks to trap her inside and proceeded to kidnap and murder her. Josephson’s body was discovered in a field in New Zion, South Carolina, bearing approximately 120 stab wounds, 65 miles from where she had entered Rowland’s vehicle.
The episode highlights the swift action taken by law enforcement, with Rowland being arrested just a day after the murder and charged with kidnapping and murder. He was ultimately found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Killers: Caught on Camera: Suttles & Josephson airs Thursday, 10 October 2024, at 10:00 PM on True Crime.
