So, the Krapopolis clan is finally taking a vacation. What could possibly go wrong? If you’re familiar with Dan Harmon’s particular brand of animated mayhem, you already know the answer: pretty much everything. In the sixth episode of the second season, aptly titled “National Lampoon’s The Odyssey!”, the family packs their sandals (and probably some seriously questionable provisions) for a trip to Storgos. The occasion? Shlub’s mother’s birthday. Because nothing says “Happy Birthday, Mom” like a trip with this crew.
Given the episode’s title, it’s safe to assume this won’t be your average getaway. Evoking Homer’s epic poem, “The Odyssey,” suggests a journey fraught with peril, bizarre encounters, and a likely detour or twelve. Knowing the Krapopolis family, their Storgos sojourn is less likely to resemble a relaxing spa retreat and more like a descent into comical chaos.
After five episodes of city-building woes, it will be intriguing to see how the Krapopolis family handles the “challenges” of a simple birthday trip. Will they encounter any mythical creatures? Will they accidentally anger a god or two? And, most importantly, will Shlub’s mom actually enjoy her birthday?
