The BBC has announced that Laura Kuenssberg and Clive Myrie will lead its TV coverage of the upcoming general election on 4 July. They will be joined by the BBC’s political editor, Chris Mason, from the BBC London studio.
Kuenssberg, who hosts a weekly Sunday morning politics programme, and Myrie, the Mastermind presenter and BBC newsreader, will replace the recently departed Huw Edwards, who anchored the broadcaster’s election night coverage in 2019.
The BBC’s CEO, Deborah Turness, praised the “truly fantastic line-up of journalistic talent,” stating that the team “will bring voters the results and help make sense of them.” She added, “We’ve assembled a fresh, dynamic team to bring insight, experience, and perhaps a little wit to audiences for the whole election night and beyond.”
The coverage will also include analysis from Reeta Chakrabarti, Jeremy Vine with the swingometer from Cardiff, Kirsty Wark from Glasgow, and Andrea Catherwood from Belfast.
This is the first time the BBC has chosen a duo to front its election night coverage.
