In the third episode of this new run of Long Lost Family, airing on ITV1 on Monday, 22 July 2024, at 9 pm, the programme explores the stories of Sue Stalley and Melanie Mackney, two women on a quest to find their biological family members and fill in the gaps in their family histories.

Sue Stalley, who became pregnant as a teenager, was forced by her mother to give up her firstborn son for adoption. The memory of this painful event still haunts her, and she berates herself for not trying harder to keep her child. Now, she yearns to be reunited with her eldest son and find closure.

Melanie Mackney, on the other hand, had a positive adoption experience but was intrigued by her family history. She discovered that her mother fled war-torn Yugoslavia and eventually made her way to Australia and then England, where she lived on the streets. Melanie’s curiosity centres around the twins her mother gave birth to before her. What became of these twins, and why were they given up for adoption?
