Max Cancels Velma Following Halloween Special Release

Velma This Halloween Needs to Be More Special!

Max has decided to cancel the adult animated series Velma, just days after the debut of a Halloween special. The show, which features a reimagined version of Velma Dinkley from the Scooby-Doo franchise, had its first season launch in January 2023, followed by a second season in April 2023. Despite being well-received for its fresh take on the iconic characters, the series will not proceed to a third season.

Mindy Kaling, who voices Velma, was among the cast that included Glenn Howerton, Sam Richardson, Constance Wu, Jane Lynch, Ming-Na Wen, and Wanda Sykes. The narrative focused on Velma’s quest to uncover the mystery behind her mother’s disappearance and the murders of several teenage girls.

In a statement, Max acknowledged the efforts of Kaling and showrunner Charlie Grandy, commending them for their engaging storytelling and humor throughout the show’s two-season run.
