The UEFA Euro 2024 action continues on BBC One on Saturday 22 June, with live coverage of Group F’s encounter between Georgia and Czechia. The match, taking place at Volksparkstadion Hamburg, marks the first-ever meeting between the two countries on the football pitch.
Georgia, making their debut in a major football tournament, face a challenging group that includes powerhouses Portugal and Turkiye. Captained by the experienced Guram Kashia, with over 110 international caps, Georgia’s squad also includes midfielder Jaba Kankava, who has earned just over 100 caps for his country. Their leading scorer, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, despite only making his international debut in 2019, is already their third-highest goalscorer of all time. Kvaratskhelia currently plays for Italian club Napoli, and Georgia’s squad is notable for its diversity in terms of players’ club affiliations.
Czechia, on the other hand, has a strong history in this competition. Since their first entry as the Czech Republic in 1996, they have consistently performed well, finishing as runners-up to Germany in that year, reaching the semi-finals in 2004, and making it to the quarter-finals in both 2012 and 2021.
