This week’s Mountain Men finds our intrepid band facing the usual assortment of self-imposed wilderness hardships. In “Depth Charge,” Mike opts for a frigid dip to wrestle snow crabs from the ocean floor, a culinary pursuit that seems significantly less appealing than a trip to the local fish market.
Meanwhile, Bret and Ivy, ever the trailblazers, are busy hacking through uncharted territory, even going so far as to construct a log bridge over a particularly inconvenient creek. One wonders if a slightly less ambitious route might have saved them some time and splinters.
Elsewhere, Tom and Nancy are putting their survival skills to charitable use, demonstrating that self-sufficiency doesn’t preclude community spirit. Paul, never one to shy away from a strenuous task, is building a trapping sled for a trek to a remote beaver pond. Exactly how “remote” this pond needs to be for a beaver-trapping expedition remains unclear, but one assumes it involves a level of exertion most of us would reserve for escaping a burning building. And finally, Jake is on the hunt for bobcats, likely motivated by the promise of warm pelts and the undeniable cool factor of telling people you hunt bobcats.
“Depth Charge” provides the familiar mix of breathtaking scenery and questionable life choices that keeps Mountain Men viewers coming back for more. Tune in to see if frostbite or exhaustion claims any victims this week.
Mountain Men: Depth Charge airs Thursday, November 14 at 9/8c on History.
