Netflix has announced that Black Doves, a new spy thriller starring Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire, will premiere globally on December 5, 2024. Set in London during the Christmas season, the series blends fast-paced action with emotional depth, following the story of Helen Webb (Knightley), a devoted mother and wife who has secretly been a spy for a decade, feeding intel from her politician husband to the Black Doves, a shadowy organization.
When her lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is assassinated, Helen is thrust into a dangerous conspiracy that ties London’s criminal underworld to a larger geopolitical crisis. Her spymaster, Reed (Lancashire), enlists Helen’s old friend Sam (Whishaw) to protect her, leading to a tense and twisting investigation into Jason’s murder.
The show features a high profile cast, including Andrew Buchan, Adeel Akhtar, Tracey Ullman, and Finn Bennett. Black Doves is written and created by Joe Barton, known for Giri/Haji and The Lazarus Project. The series will return for a second season, already confirmed by Netflix, a rare move that indicates clear confidence in the project.
Produced by SISTER (responsible for Chernobyl and This Is Going To Hurt) and Noisy Bear, the show is directed by Alex Gabassi (The Crown) and Lisa Gunning (The Power). Executive producers include Barton, Knightley, Jane Featherstone, and Chris Fry.
