Channel 4’s BAFTA-winning drama anthology, On the Edge, returns for its fourth series with three short films from emerging storytellers. The episode “Wet Look,” airing on 5 August 2024, centres on the relationship between Gwynn, a mermaid adjusting to life on land, and her boyfriend, Rob.
Written by Toby Parker Rees and directed by B Welby, the story explores the challenges faced by Gwynn, played by Tanya Reynolds, as she struggles with her new physical form. Unable to regrow her tail, she feels disconnected from her body and yearns to return to the sea, even if it might cost her life.
Iwan Rheon portrays Rob, who finds himself at a loss for how to support his mermaid girlfriend. Steve Speirs also stars as Rob’s father.
“Wet Look” is one of three dramas in this series that touch upon the theme of care and caring.
