The three-part Hulu documentary series Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini explores the 2016 disappearance of 34-year-old Sherri Papini from Redding, California. Sherri was found alive on a Sacramento highway 22 days after she went missing, claiming she had been kidnapped by two unknown Hispanic women while jogging near her home.
However, the docuseries reveals that during her disappearance, Sherri was actually at an ex-boyfriend’s home in Costa Mesa, where she asked him to help inflict wounds on her to make it seem like she had been tortured while captive. In March 2022, Sherri was charged and later pleaded guilty to lying to a federal officer and mail fraud. She was sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution.
The series is directed and produced by Michael Beach Nichols and executive produced by Rob Ford, Allison Berkley, Joseph Freed, and Erin Lee Carr of Marwar Junction Productions.
