Oxygen True Crime continues its exploration of real-life crime with new series Philly Homicide. This week’s episode, “The Center City Devil,” focuses on the death of a hospital employee found on a Center City sidewalk. A seemingly random act of violence? Perhaps not.
Surveillance footage leads detectives to a suspect with possible connections to other unsolved crimes. The implication of a serial killer lurking in the heart of Philadelphia certainly raises the stakes.
Hosted by Lt. Chris McMullin, a veteran of the Philadelphia and Bensalem police departments, the series presents an insider’s perspective on the city’s criminal investigations. I’m generally wary of true-crime shows that lean too heavily on dramatic recreations, but if they’re done tastefully and serve the narrative rather than sensationalizing the violence, it can be an effective way to bring these stories to life.
Philly Homicide: The Center City Devil airs Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 9:00 pm on Oxygen True Crime.
