Prime Video has released first-look images from On Call, a new police drama from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment. Set to premiere on January 9th, 2025, the eight-episode series follows a rookie and veteran officer duo patrolling Long Beach, California. The show marks Wolf Entertainment’s first foray into scripted streaming series.
On Call aims for a gritty, realistic feel by incorporating bodycam, dashcam, and cellphone footage. This cinema verité approach, while not entirely new, could offer a fresh perspective within the often-formulaic police procedural genre.
Troian Bellisario stars as veteran officer Traci Harmon, struggling to balance her protective instincts with the demands of training a new generation of officers. Brandon Larracuente plays Alex Diaz, the ambitious rookie grappling with the realities of modern policing. The supporting cast includes familiar faces like Eriq La Salle, Lori Loughlin, and Rich Ting. La Salle also serves as an executive producer and director for the series.
The involvement of Dick Wolf, the prolific producer behind the Law & Order, Chicago, and FBI franchises, will undoubtedly draw attention. However, On Call’s success will depend on whether it can differentiate itself from Wolf’s broadcast procedurals. The streaming format offers the potential for more serialized storytelling and deeper character development, but it also means the show will need to compete with a much wider range of content.
On Call is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studios Group, and Amazon MGM Studios in association with Wolf Entertainment. Executive producers include Dick Wolf, Tim Walsh, Elliot Wolf, Eriq La Salle, and Peter Jankowski.
