Prime Video Chills with True Crime and Embraces the Wild North in Two New Docu-Series

In Cold Water Shelter Bay Mystery

This November, Prime Video invites viewers to explore the extremes of the Canadian landscape, from the icy depths of a mysterious drowning to the untamed wilderness of the far north. Two new docu-series, In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery and Hard North, offer contrasting narratives, each with a unique glimpse into the human experience.

In Cold Water plunges into the chilling case of Laura Letts-Beckett, a school teacher whose fishing trip to the Canadian Rockies ended in tragedy. The sole witness? Her husband, Peter Beckett, a former New Zealand city councilor.

As suspicions mount, Beckett finds himself at the center of a murder investigation, sparking a global legal battle. Across three episodes, the series unravels the complex layers of this case, exploring the conflicting accounts and shocking accusations that followed. Was it a tragic accident or a calculated crime?

Shifting gears from true crime to the challenges of off-grid living, Hard North follows a diverse group of young Canadians as they attempt to carve out a life in the remote wilderness. Across eight episodes, the series captures their struggles and triumphs as they deal with the harsh realities of homesteading, battling the elements and striving for self-sufficiency in some of Canada’s most unforgiving terrains.
